Frequently asked questions.
What is Solar PV?
Solar panels that produce electricity are known as solar photovoltaic (PV) modules. These panels generate electricity when exposed to light. Solar PV is the rooftop solar you see on homes and businesses. The solar electric panels capture the light from the sun and convert it into the electricity that is used in your home to power your TV, kettle, toaster, phone charger, radio, oven, and so on.
A solar electric system (PV) is typically made up of:
Solar panels on the roof, which generate DC (direct current – like in a battery).
An ‘Inverter’ which converts this to AC (alternating current – like the electricity in your house socket).
Sometimes a battery on larger systems to save energy for later use.
Are there any grant supports for solar PV?
Yes! The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) offer a range of grant supports for Solar PV, battery storage & EV home chargers. See our dedicated page on Grant Supports for more information.
How are Solar Panels fixed to my roof? Will they cause damage?
Solar panels are typically mounted on a rail system that is fixed to the roof. A solar PV system is designed to maintain the strength and integrity of your roof, whilst remaining watertight.
How long do solar panels last?
Our high quality solar panels come with a 25 year product and 30 year performance warranty but they can last a lot longer than that. Your solar expert will explain all of the benefits and impact of each panel when specifying your products.
How much does it cost?
Prices vary from property to property taking individual constraints into consideration. Please contact us today to get a quote
Is it hot and sunny enough in Ireland for Solar to be worth it?
As we know Ireland is not known for its hot sunny weather, however, it is visible light that drives solar PV cells, not the heat from the sun. You would typically think that when the sun is not out, there wouldn’t be much solar energy. Thankfully this is not the case. Even cloudy Irish days have very good visible light levels and this resource is substantial. The other big advantage that Ireland has is that when seasonal intensity of visible light is at its peak, we have long hours of daylight.
